Boiler And Heating Checks | Cold Weather is Coming
Winter is on the horizon, and for that reason, now is the time to make sure that your home boiler and central heating are working as they should be. While it’s probably not a bad idea to get a boiler service in the summer or autumn just to prepare ahead of time, plenty of us wait until the first bit of cold creeps in before we think about heating problems!
However, to avoid any kind of boiler problems during the cold months ahead, here are a few quick heating checks you can do to make sure you’re keeping cosy through to spring.
What should I be checking my boiler and heating For this winter
Bleed Your Radiators
One of the simplest heating checks you can do right now won’t even need you to go anywhere near your boiler. If your radiators aren’t heating up as efficiently as they should, it might be that there’s air in the pipes. Simply grab an allen key and bleed your radiators until water comes out. Lock it back up and you should be good to go.
Go Full Power
A really good boiler check and heating check you can perform is to switch everything up to full power. That’s your thermostat, your water heater, etc. If all heat up quickly and fills your home with warmth, then you will likely have nothing to worry about.
Check Your Water Pressure
Modern boilers are easy enough to repressurise. However, water pressure problems are some of the most common issues boiler engineers face – and it’s often quite an easy fix.
Check Your Insulation
If you are finding that your home’s not as warm as it should be, even with adequate pressure levels and the thermostat up to full, you might not need a boiler service at all. Heating checks may extend as far as your attic or loft space, where you can check that your insulation or lagging is still covering the pipework. If it’s not, you may need to call someone to replace it.
Check Your Insurance Cover
Ok – this isn’t a heating check as such, but it’s something you’ll need to make sure of. Unfortunately, boilers have a habit of causing issues when we least want them to. Even modern boiler systems and services need extra TLC now and again. That’s why we think it’s especially important that you make sure you have some form of insurance in place, or emergency call-out cover, just in case you get caught in a pinch.
There are lots of ways to keep your boiler and heating in check ahead of winter. However, the last thing you’re going to want is to end up needing a fix in the cold of winter. Keep an eye on your heating now!
